Sagumi Beach retains the freshness of a'virgin sea.' It is not very popular, shaded as it is by the reputations of Ttangkkut and Songho Beach, but the 1.5 kilometer-long white sandy plain and the moderate shade made by the pine grove will entertain the visitors with the freshness of its innocent sea.
Opinions are divided about the origin of the name 'Sagumi'. Some say the rich and long sand plain inspired its name 'Moraemi' (sand) and then came its Chinese transcription 'Sagumi.' Others say the sand containing silica was associated with alluvial gold ('sagum'). And still others say it means the edge ('mi' is the reading of this Chinese character) of a sand dune ('sagu'). Anyway, even the name shows that its fine sand is not to be compared with the rough sand of other beaches. The beach has a spring where Kosan would take a rest on his way to Pogildo Island. Now the spring has run dry and only its trace remains. But you can feel the breath of Kosan singing to the summer sea in every corner of this calm beach. And you should not miss the magnificent sunset. |
